What is Behaviour Counselling?
Behaviour counselling is about looking beyond the behaviour itself.
Rather than simply asking:
“How do I stop my dog doing this?”
we ask:
“Why is my dog doing this, and what can we do to help?”
I'll look at your dog's history, environment, body language, triggers and responses, as well as the situations in which the behaviour occurs.
Together, we'll work towards understanding what your dog may be experiencing and develop practical strategies that are appropriate for both your dog and your family.
What you'll receive
Your behaviour consultation can include:
Detailed discussion of your dog's behaviour and history
Behavioural observation and analysis
Video capture and review where appropriate
Help understanding your dog's body language and triggers
Practical management strategies
A personalised training and behaviour plan
Coaching and demonstrations
Written guidance and recommendations
Follow-up email support
Progress review and reflection
Every dog is different, so the support is tailored to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.
Qualified in Dog Behaviour & Counselling
I hold a Diploma in Dog Behaviour and Counselling, having studied with Caroline Clark, and have undertaken specific study in areas including canine anxiety and reactivity.
My approach combines behavioural understanding with practical coaching, so that the knowledge gained during the consultation can be translated into everyday life.
I'm also DBS checked, insured and Dog First Aid trained.
What does success look like?
Progress doesn't necessarily mean that your dog will never react, become frightened or find something difficult again.
Real progress might mean:
You recognise your dog's early signs of stress.
You understand their triggers.
You know how to manage difficult situations.
Your dog can recover more quickly.
Your dog becomes more confident.
Walks become more manageable.
You feel less anxious about what might happen.
You know what to do when your dog struggles.
You understand your dog rather than simply reacting to their behaviour.
Small changes can make a big difference.
What other owners say
“Roman helped us understand our dog's triggers and body language, giving us the tools and confidence to support him properly.”
“He was patient, knowledgeable and really took the time to understand our dog rather than treating the behaviour as a problem to simply stop.”
“We saw our dog become calmer in overwhelming situations and gradually build his confidence.”

How the consultation works
1. We listen
We'll start by talking through your concerns in detail.
We'll discuss your dog's history, their everyday life, when the behaviour happens, what tends to trigger it and what you've already tried.
2. We observe
I'll look carefully at your dog's behaviour and body language, including the environment and circumstances in which the behaviour occurs.
Where useful, video can also help us understand situations that aren't always possible to observe during a consultation.
3. We understand
We'll explore what may be contributing to the behaviour and what your dog could be communicating through their responses.
Understanding comes before training.
4. We make a plan
You'll receive a personalised behaviour plan based on your dog's needs, your circumstances and what is realistically achievable for you.
This may include management strategies, environmental changes, training exercises and ways to help your dog feel safer and more confident.
5. We put it into practice
I'll coach you through the plan and help you understand how to apply it in everyday situations.
You won't simply be handed a list of instructions and left to figure it out yourself.
6. We review and adapt
Behaviour change takes time.
You'll have follow-up support so that you can ask questions, reflect on progress and make adjustments as your dog develops.
